some of the cast and crew relaxing between scenes

"Nanki-Po" getting some help from Leigh

the Three Samuri doing thier make-up

one of the "three little maids" and her backstage
"Ladies in Waiting"

we had 5 minutes to get Jim into full make-up, there were actuall 5 of us working on him, although you only see three here, and of course, before i took the photos, i had to apply the white to his shaven head! what a riot....

Did he have to shave his head for the makeup or is that just his style?

When I worked in a school as an art teacher I was involved in seemingly countless performances and productions. These pictures capture the good bits; the shared cameraderie of getting ready, dressing up, rehearsing, etc. The actual shows never meant as much to me as that.

ok...
I must (agin) be missing somethhing, "backstage" does not look familiar...(as in The Burr or our Playhouse)
Where in Surrey?

Of course - they would "mostly" be archetypal
so, closer to Caroline Myss' take on it, as oposed to the more general common (?) understanding and/or practice (?)

BUT, I still would like to share/exchange more info
Perhaps personally.

I love candid shots. Unfortunately for me I have to pose. Otherwise I look like complete hell!

hi Fuzzy no, he did not shave it specially for the show, he always has it like that, but some of the men DID dye their hair jet black for the performance. it was really funny, when they all came in with black hair, they looked SOOOO different...

hello ian g yes, i know what you mean, i was in some of the "theatrical productions" our school put on, and although we were younger and older students, when the performance was long over, we had this bond, so when we passed each other in the hall way, we would wink, or recite a phrase from the show, like a secret code. even now at school reunions, we still have that to share.

hi angeldust, sorry i have not got back to you yet, but have been very busy...the locale was The Surrey Arts Centre's Studio Theatre, i think in Bear Creek Park, and if you are interested the G & S Society will be holding auditions for Hansel and Gretel in September.

hi Valkyrie thanks for stopping by, hope you are feeling better.
