THINGS PINK!

"Designed for Union Products, by Don Featherstone, a serious sculptor and classical art student, the first plastic flamingo was "born" around 1957. In the 1960s this fake-feathered friend became the 'proto-type for bad taste and anti-nature.' By 1970 even Sears had removed it from its catalogue. "

In 1984, Miami Vice kicked the sales of pink flamingos into full throttle. For the first time ever Union Plastics sold more flamingo than they did ducks. Bans have been placed on the Pink Plastic Flamingo all over the united states, so people painted them blue". - Get Flocked

This famous bird continues to add colour to our lives all over the world...

jip: (jumping in puddles eh?):
yeah, i don't know what it is about these plastic things but i just luv 'em. they are my winter decoration, in summer i bring them in for a bath and storage as i don't want them bleached white by the sun. then i plant flowers. oh and last Christmas i decorated them with lights and had them pulling a sleigh full of pressies. People walking past my balcony stopped to puzzle over the display.

yep, Alan, what can i say, it snowed and they did not mind it, just stood there patiently, like sentanels :0)

hi mcKait, isn't that funny, yesterday, as i walked back from the store i saw the "flamingo man",
well his van, with his phone number 522-PINK; i used him to send someone a 32nd birthday greeting once. 2 dozen pink flamingos, and a couple of buzzards, on his lawn, oh, and there is a web site called "Get Flocked" -- i think it was one of those gated communities full of what i call "old fogies", you know those people who like everything the same. same lamppost, same colour door, same chimneys, same fence, same dog etc. (living in little boxes type of people) oh well, it takes all kinds, but i fear they are taking over the world. *shudder*

you have no idea the lengths i went to trying to get these flamingos; i e-mailed places but they did not ship to Canada, i phoned every shop in town with no luck...one day coming back from Chilliwack i stopped in at a garden shop to pick up some plants, and lo and behold i saw one on display, full of dust, i grabbed it and the only three remaining ones that he had...not cheap either!

hey there Deb! KOOL, pink is the new black (as in little black dress sort of thing) -- keep up the good work.

cheers for now,
pj

I have always hated the idea of those communites..

they tell you what color to paint your house and what kinds and how many trees to plant and now they don't like flamingoes!

Harumph!

I love the idea of your christmas display !

.... I might just start looking for some flamingos of my own...

just.. 'cause

long live pink!

absolutely! long live pink,..funny tho' when i was a little girl my mom dressed me in red, blue, yellow, but NEVER pink, and it has only been in the last 10 years that i have been dressing myself in pink. oh i forgot, i had a lovely pair of pastel pink stretch pants (with stirrups, remember those!!) when i was 16, i'll have to see if i can dig up a photo of me in them, i remember i used to wear them when cream coloured boots, what a hoot!),
